The best way to make quitting smoking easier is to develop a quit smoking action plan. This plan will make quitting smoking a lot more bearable when the going gets tough. Below is the plan that I recommend, feel free to add to this plan or adjust it to fit your needs, but by all means find a plan and follow it.
Step #1. Be dead sure that you want to quit, period. No more reservations in the back of your mind about going back to em later, or just quitting for a little while, make up you mind to stop. This will plant the right seed towards a life without nicotine, because when you make up your mind that your sick of the captivity that nicotine brings with it, and that you're not going to be a slave to it any longer. quitting become a whole lot easier my friend.
Step #2. Decide what method you are going to use to quit smoking, give this step some real thought and research, there are many different ways to quit smoking and not all of them may be suitable for you. Some of the most popular methods are as follows,
nicotine patches, helps curve the appetite for nicotine, nicotine chewing gum, also helps suppress the urge to smoke, herbal supplements, hypnosis, laser surgery. and cold turkey. Choosing the best method for you will greatly enhance your potential for success with your quit smoking action plan.
step #3. educate yourself throughout the withdrawal process. This one will give you staying power and here's how, most smokers avoid "quit smoking literature" and just say know pamphlets and information packages like the plague. The last thing I wanted interrupting my smoking cessions was some horrific image of lung cancer or the effects of long term nicotine use burned into my brain while trying to enjoy a cigarette. So now that you have decided to stop, arming yourself with this information will give you just what you need to further help you suppress those urges for a smoke in the infant stages of your recovery.
Step #4. Identify your smoking triggers and avoid them like the plague. Nicotine is a very powerful drug that effects an individual both physically and psychologically and it doesn't take much to set it off if you suffer from this addiction. You know the times that you enjoyed lighting up the most, make a conscious effort to identify those times and things and try and stay away from them as much as possible at least until you become strong enough to handle dealing with them.
Step #5. Find a support group online or off. People helping people is one of the most powerful support methods known to man, just knowing that you don't have to go it alone extremely boost's your chances of success. There areas support groups just about everywhere these days both online and off, find one that fits your situation and become part of it and it's community, be sure you become a very active part of that support group because the best way to get what you want is to help someone get what they want, believe you me truer words have barely ever been spoken. Support groups are very powerful so use them.
Step #6. Take the time to learn something new, or become an expert at something you truly enjoy, not only will this build your confidence it will help you in your initial stages of nicotine abstinence. Learning something new is the best way to becoming preoccupied when trying to keep your mind off of other things, soon you will have discovered that you have found a quit smoking action plan that's right for you.
